This October, Penn Foster is excited to be attending two major state career colleges conference:
- 2014 Career Colleges and School of Texas (CCST) Annual Conference (October 14th-16th in San Antonio, TX)
- California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) 30th Annual Conference (October 15th-17th in Monterrey, CA)
Conferences are a great forum to discuss the latest industry trends and challenges. While we expect there to be some differences in the discussions at these conferences, a couple of topics that we are looking forward to hearing more about at both include:
- How to make the trades attractive – It’s no secret that the trades and career colleges are often stigmatized by prospective students. While growth statistics and average salaries are often helpful tools to fight these perceptions and attract prospective students, it’s always interesting to learn about what other tactics schools are using to appeal to a broader audience.
- Gainful employment legislation – this very much remains the Elephant in the Room at industry events, as career colleges discuss how to best handle the increasing regulations and scrutiny from the federal government. “How to Turn Gainful Employment Lemons into Business Growth Lemonade” is one breakout session at CAPPS that should provide some good insights on how colleges can best handle and benefit from these regulations.
