In the US, over 30 million adults do not have a high school diploma.1 To shed light onto this issue, USA Today just launched Adult Learning in America, featuring leading education organizations including Pearson, Association for Adult and Continuing Education, Upskill America, Golden Gate University, and Penn Foster. The campaign calls attention to the unique challenges that adult and nontraditional learners face in today’s social and economic landscape, while also aiming to help connect adults who are thinking of going back to school with the tools, resources and knowledge needed to achieve the success they deserve.
In addition, the article features Q&As from distinguished leaders in the field of adult education. Leaders discuss what specific characteristics set adult learners apart from traditional learners, misconceptions surrounding this cohort, advice they have for adult learners, and how organizations and employers can work to support a broader range of today’s learners.
