NJCA Leadership Summit 2016Penn Foster is excited to be sponsoring the NJCA Leadership Summit next week (September 19-20) in Arlington, Virginia. And, on behalf of the rest of the Penn Foster team that will be joining me, we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with Job Corps leaders and students from across the country.

The NJCA Leadership Summit is always a unique experience because of the broad group of attendees, which consists of leaders, operators, policy makers, and students from Job Corps centers nationwide. The diverse group allows for an all-encompassing discussion with individuals who touch Job Corps from all angles. It always yields a conversation that pushes us all to think critically about how the Job Corps system can be further refined and improved.

It’s also a tremendous learning opportunity for us at Penn Foster because it allows us to share our latest undertakings and initiatives with the Job Corps community, while also garnering feedback on how to collaborate to enhance student outcomes. This year, we are ecstatic to have the opportunity to interact with attendees through two breakout sessions:

Career Pathways     Monday, September 19th   I   11:00a.m. - 12:00p.m.

This session will focus on career pathways and the importance of creating additional opportunities for Job Corps students to pursue concentrations in in-demand career fields. Penn Foster Managing Director, Erik Hensley, will explain how giving students the opportunity to earn primary or secondary credentials in fast-growing career fields will enrich the student experience while increasing marketability and improving job placement rates. Erik will describe how career pathways can be implemented at your center as well as share a few case studies on how these programs have created more well-rounded and confident students ready to succeed in the workforce.

Academic Rigor: College and Career Readiness     Tuesday, September 20th   I   3:30p.m. - 5:00p.m.

Penn Foster’s Chief Outcomes Officer, Dara Warn, will participate in a discussion on the importance of academic rigor for enhancing college and career readiness. Dara will explain how ACE-approved course offerings can help Job Corps centers enhance rigor, increase student access to postsecondary credits, and improve outcomes for students and centers alike. Dara will delve into some of the inherent benefits of offering these courses on-center, such as allowing students to earn college credits while in a familiar Job Corps environment and reducing transportation costs. She will also provide insight into what to look for when evaluating providers.
